Details
Consent and Prep
- Prior to the appointment, your veterinarian will ask for your consent for potential sedation and shaving.
- Light sedation may be required to achieve clear imaging. It is recommended for patients who get nervous or excited. This will be prescribed by your veterinarian.
- Areas on your pet's chest may need to be shaved. This greatly enhances our ability to see their heart.
- Pets can eat and drink as usual, unless noted otherwise by your veterinarian.
Echocardiogram
- The cardiac sonographer will travel to your clinic for the appointment.
- A veterinary assistant will gently hold your pet during the exam. Owners are not permitted to be in present for the exam.
- The appointment duration will vary depending on patient movement and the amount of information needed.
Report
- The report and treatment plan will be provided by a Board Certified Veterinary Cardiologist.
- Reports will be sent to the referring clinic the next business day for routine studies and as soon as possible for urgent needs.
- Your veterinarian will review the results and recommendations with you.
- Hearts & Tails is not permitted to discuss findings with pet owners. Please contact your veterinarian for inquiries and results.
